Walk away from pain

Even a minor car crash can shift your spine out of alignment leading to discomfort and pain. Louisville medical team evaluates your pain to discover the extent and severity of the injury. All treatments at Louisville Medical Center have an emphasis on tissue healing, restoring function and pain reduction.

Lingering Pain from a Car Accident?

Even if they are minor, car accidents always involve a violent collision. More often than not, these collisions do some form of damage to human bodies inside the vehicle.

Pain from a minor car accident is like a bad houseguest. It shows up late and overstays its welcome. There are, of course, car accidents that cause obvious injuries and require immediate medical treatment. Many more car accident injuries, however, are those, such as whiplash, that only become apparent days or weeks or even months after the accident itself. The shock and adrenaline surge that your body experiences in the aftermath of even a minor car accident can hide minor injuries. As a result, many people start to experience chronic pain from car accidents.

Tissue Healing, Restoring Function and Pain Reduction

Even a minor fender bender can cause your spine or other joints in your body to shift out of alignment, or it can cause soft tissue damage which leads to discomfort, numbness, tingling, and pain. It’s possible you may not even feel some of these symptoms until well after the initial accident. The team at Louisville Medical Center can do an evaluation of your symptoms to discover the full extent and severity of your injuries. All treatments at Louisville Medical Center have a primary emphasis on healing damaged soft tissues, which will ultimately help restore function, and reduce your pain and other symptoms.

While we do have an excellent track record for treating pain and soft tissue injuries like whiplash, not all auto accident injuries can be treated by a chiropractor. We recommend consulting with your general practice or primary care doctor in addition to seeking chiropractic care.

Whiplash: The #1 Cause of Pain After a Car Accident

One of the most common and well-known injuries that occurs from a minor car crash is, of course, whiplash. Whiplash is caused by a rapid and uncontrolled back and forth movement of the neck. This can cause injury to the bones, discs, and/or ligaments within the neck. Car accidents are by far the leading cause of whiplash (especially rear-end car accidents), but they can also be caused by contact sports, falls, physical altercations, or other such occurrences.

Symptoms of whiplash commonly include:

  • Neck Pain or Stiffness
  • Headache
  • Fatigue or Weakness of Neck Muscles
  • Ringing in the Ears
  • Blurred Vision
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Nausea
  • Difficulty Concentrating
  • Pain, Numbness, Tingling, or Weakness in the Hands or Arms
  • Difficulty Swallowing

Most cases of whiplash go away after a few weeks, but many others lead to ongoing problems and chronic pain. Following an accident, it is best to allow time for the initial swelling to go down before chiropractic treatment can be effective and safe. We do not recommend starting chiropractic treatment immediately after a car accident or whiplash injury, however we can perform an assessment of your symptoms before beginning treatment. If your accident was more than a month ago and the pain and discomfort is still lingering, please reach out to us. You don’t have to live in pain.2
